MANAGER

Position Overview

The Building Manager is responsible for the maintenance, safety, and efficient operation of the church building and grounds. This includes overseeing facility upkeep, coordinating repairs, managing custodial staff and contractors, and ensuring that the church campus provides a safe, welcoming, and functional environment for worship services, ministries, and community events.

Key Responsibilities:

Facilities Maintenance & Operations

  • Oversee daily operations of church building and grounds.

  • Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance and safety needs.

  • Schedule and supervise maintenance, repairs, and improvements (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, etc.).

  • Maintain preventive maintenance schedules for all building systems and equipment.

  • Ensure compliance with local building codes, fire regulations, and safety standards.

  • Ensure that the church owned vehicles receive maintenance needed, gassed up and cleaned on a regular basis.

Custodial & Vendor Oversight

  • Supervise custodial staff and/or coordinate cleaning schedules with contracted services.

  • Manage relationships with vendors, contractors, and service providers; obtain bids and oversee work to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.

  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, maintenance tools, and facility equipment.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and sanctuary areas.

  • Vacuum, sweep, mop, and dust all areas as needed.

  • Set up and clean up after church services, meetings, and special events.

  • Maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.

Event & Ministry Support

  • Coordinate facility use for church programs, groups, services, weddings, funerals, and community events.

  • Set up and take down rooms, furniture, and equipment as needed.

  • Ensure heating, cooling, lighting, and sound systems are operational during events.

Budget & Administrative Duties

  • Assist in developing and managing the facilities budget.

  • Track maintenance expenses and submit invoices for approval.

  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, warranties, and equipment service logs.

Safety & Security

  • Ensure security of the property, alarm systems, and after-hours access.

  • Implement and monitor emergency procedures (fire, weather, lockdown).

  • Work with staff and volunteers to maintain a safe environment for congregants and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Experience in building or facilities management

  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to interact effectively with staff, volunteers, and vendors.

  • Commitment to the mission and values of the church.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform manual tasks as needed such as move tables, chairs, boxes, furniture. 

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, and work in various indoor/outdoor conditions.

Work Schedule

  • Sunday – Thursday with occasional evenings and weekends required for events or emergencies.  Attend all services and special events.
